Jane Berkner was described by Flute Talk Magazine as “a versatile performer...(and) outstanding musician".  She has played in the Akron, Ashland, Canton and Youngstown Symphonies, the Ohio Ballet Orchestra, the Botzum Summer Festival Orchestra, and for touring shows at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron, Playhouse Square in Cleveland, and Blossom Center’s Porthouse Theater. As a chamber musician, she has performed with the O’Neil Chamber Players, Garth Newel Chamber Players, Chamber Music Society of Ohio, and with Music Unites in Zurich, Switzerland. Along with Stephen Aron, the AronBerkner Duo has  presented concerts across the US and Europe and released a CD, “Tropicale” on the Clear Note label. Their performances in Italy led to the formation of a summer music festival in Assisi. She has performed with Singers Companye at the National Gallery in Washington, DC, and has been invited to perform for National Flute Association conventions in Atlanta, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Chicago, Orlando, and New Orleans.

Ms. Berkner is the founder and flutist of Urban Troubadour, bringing roving concert events to venues all around Akron. According to a Clevelandclassical.com review “Berkner’s flute sounded — well, magical”, and  “in the crowded field of efforts to “disrupt” the world of staid programming, Urban Troubadour’s multi-part evenings feel distinct and vital.”  She was recently named Outstanding Musician in the 2019 Akron Arts Alive Awards.

Ms. Berkner taught at The University of Akron for 25 years, and also at Ashland and Muskingum Universities. She currently teaches and directs flute ensembles at The Music Settlement in Cleveland. She has had students win regional and national awards including Masterclass Performers for National Flute Association, NFA High School and Collegiate Flute Choirs, Northeastern Ohio Young Artist Competitions, Central Ohio Flute Association Competitions, and Tuesday Musical Club Scholarships. Her students have been members of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Akron and Canton Youth Orchestras, and have won concerto competitions in these orchestras. Many former students are currently in successful careers as performers and educators.

Ms. Berkner has presented workshops for National Flute Association conventions, adjudicated events for Central Ohio Flute Association, Northeastern Ohio Flute Association, Music Teachers National Association, Tuesday Musical, Erie Scholarships, and National Flute Association Young Artist. She has presented masterclasses and clinics for SUNY Potsdam, East Carolina Flute Symposium, University of Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Columbus State, University of Oregon, Dana Flute Festival, Northeastern Ohio and Greater Cleveland Flute Festivals, and the National Flute Association.

She was Coordinator of the National Flute Association’s High School Flute Choir from 2001 to 2006, and is currently the Director of a summer Flute Choir Camp for adults at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. While Director of the University of Akron Flute Ensemble, the group performed for the National Flute Association, Central Ohio Flute Association, Dana Flute Festival, and in 2010, she took the group on a performing tour of Italy. Ms. Berkner was named by The National Flute Association’s Flute Clubs and Choirs as one of five Outstanding Flute Choir Directors in 2014.
