Trout in the Classroom

Thanks to a grant from the Hudson Kiwanis Foundation HMS upper elementary students now have trout! The Trout in the Classroom program starts with raising fish eggs from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, which were received this week. The children will follow the life cycle of the trout from eggs to fingerlings and then release them into a local river in the Spring. Students will monitor tank water quality, engage in stream habitat study, appreciate water resources and conservation, and further understand ecosystem connectivity. The grant will also allow HMS to replicate this program for years to come.
