“Success [for the adolescent] depends upon self-confidence, on the awareness of one’s own talents and of the many possibilities of their adaptation. The awareness of one’s own usefulness, the feeling that one can help humanity in various ways, fills the heart with noble confidence. . .The feeling of independence that results must be born from the ability to be sufficient to oneself...”

The Adolescent Program at Hudson Montessori School is committed to Dr. Maria Montessori’s principles and ideals and prepares the young adolescent for success in the later teenage years. It is designed to be developmentally responsive to the unique physical, cognitive, emotional and social needs of the 12-14 year old.

The Middle School program offers:

  • Self-Discovery through Challenge - A cross-curricular and interdisciplinary core curriculum that substantially exceeds Ohio standards and that leaves graduates well prepared for the area’s most competitive academic programs.
  • Teachers that Care - A small community for learning where teachers encourage and support the students; where respectful relationships with adults and peers are fundamental for intellectual growth and development.
  • A peer group that values education - A place where adolescent students can be active, engaged thinkers.
  • A place where anonymity is impossible, where students are held to high expectations in all of their study and work.
  • Travel and Adventure – offering academic trips and outings as key experiences.
  • Business, entrepreneurial activities – the development and management of a student-run business.
  • Opportunities for Creative Expression with visiting artists, actors and musicians, writing and speaking for self-expression, debate skills and public speaking.
  • A place where students are web-walkers – where technology skills are refined and integrated into daily activities.
  • Physical Activity - A place where everyone has an opportunity to participate in individual and team sports.
  • Service to Others – A chance to discover and respond to the needs of others through community service projects
